Court imposes penalties on Jorge Diaz Jr.
The American GT Road Racing Association announced the findings of the Court convened to investigate the incidents involving Jorge Diaz Jr. at the Ponce Grand Prix 2005.
The court found, based on video evidence that his actions were reckless and intentional. It also noted that a consistent pattern of justifications were offered to excuse his on track actions.
The court decided to impose the following penalties:
The penalties include:
- Four (4) month suspension from AGT.
- Eight (8) Races under probation or two years, whichever comes first.
- $5,000 Fine payable; $2,500 now and $2,500 if another incident occurs during the probation period.
The court noted “at the series inception it was stated that rough driving will not be tolerated and we must demonstrate our resolve by penalizing those who participate in such blatant disregard for safety and sportsmanship. The Court also noted that had the results not been posted as official Jorge would have been disqualified from the event.
“It is imperative to maintain the growth in sponsorship and purses, for each: competitor, crew member, entrant and official to conduct themselves in a sportsman like manner at all times” commented series owner Woodson Duncan.
The Court, following NASCAR’s example highly recommends Jorge seek anger management counseling.
“Though we feel, based on accounts Mr. Torrez was provoked we will notify him of our policy against physical confrontations” continued Duncan
