Edison Lluch Jr. sets record, takes AGT pole at CMP

KERSHAW, S.C. (March 25, 2006) - Edison Lluch Jr. set a track record and posted the fastest qualifying lap to grab the pole position for the start of Sunday’s American GT road racing series event at Carolina Motorsports Park.

Lluch is the son of defending series champion Edison Lluch and it was the father?s record that the son broke Saturday. The new record is one minute, 32.247 seconds, an average of 87.222 mph around the 14-turn, 2.235-mile road course.

“I feel very happy”, Edison Jr. said. “I did not have any intention of breaking his record, but I had the chance and I did my best”.

The field will race twice Sunday with the points earned from both races determining the overall winner.

The elder Edison Lluch will start next to his son on the first row. The Lluchs live in Puerto Rico.

“I felt I was doing well”, Edison Jr. said. “I just took the fastest way around the track. It felt fast”.

Jon Leavy and John Finger will start on the second row. Jordan Bupp and Dave Machavern will start on the third row. Finger is a former AGT winner at CMP.
