Scarallo sweeps AGT Challenge Event at Lime Rock
LIME ROCK, Conn. – Joey Scarallo is collecting brooms. The sports car racing veteran swept his second straight American GT Challenge weekend by setting a qualifying record and winning both heat races at Lime Rock Park.
Driving a Corvette prepared by Baucom Motorsports, Scarallo led every lap in both heats.
The AGT Challenge includes cars designed to compete in the SCCA GT1 class, as well for former Trans Am cars and the AGT class of the Rolex Sports Car Series. The American muscle cars thunder around tracks in three nations and include an international roster of drivers.
Scarallo (USA) finished ahead of Jack Busch (USA), Charlie Webster (Canada), John Reisman (USA) and defending series champion Edison Lluch (Puerto Rico) in the first heat race.
Lluch finished second in the second heat, followed by Dave Machavern (USA), Busch and Mark Shaffer (USA).
The final scoring results for the weekend will be released following the Memorial Day Weekend, but Scarallo’s overpowering performances in the last two AGT events put him in the midst of the championship hunt. Lluch, who won both heats in the season opening race, started the Lime Rock event narrowly atop the standings.
