Reisman, Machavern Earn Most Points At Lime Rock

LIME ROCK, Conn.- John Reisman and Dave Machavern were the big winners in the American GT Challenge sports car series event at Lime Rock Park, scoring the most points for the weekend.

Reisman and Machavern were consistently among the leaders. Reisman was declared the weekend winner, based upon his qualifying performance. Both are residents of the United States.

But the story doesn’t end there. Defending series champion Edison Lluch (Puerto Rico) set a series record in qualifying and appeared to have won both heat races, only to have the result of the first heat tossed out due to a technical violation. Joey Scarallo (USA), the young veteran now chasing Lluch for the 2006 title, inherited the first heat victory and was leading the second heat before a mechanical problem knocked him out of the race.

The final weekend scoring showed Jack Busch third, followed by Scarallo and Scotty Quailes (USA). Lluch broke his own qualifying record with a lap around the 1.53-mile, eight-turn road course in 51.690 seconds.

Had Lluch held on to both heat race wins, he might have locked up his second straight series title. As it is, Lluch leads Scarallo, who is second in the standings, by a 92-84 margin.

Lluch’s victory in the second heat ended Scarallo’s winning streak of five straight AGT heats. All AGT events consist of two heat races. The results of both races are added together to determine how points are awarded.

After Lluch’s victory in the first heat was tossed, Scarallo was declared the winner. John Reisman moved up to second, followed by Machavern, Busch and Paul Reisman (USA). Lluch won the second heat, followed by Machavern, John Reisman, Busch and Quailes.

The AGT series shared the fabled Lime Rock venue with the American Le Mans Series for the weekend. The next race for the AGT competitors is scheduled for Aug. 12-13 at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
