Edison LLuch Tied with Darío Franchitti for FIPA’s Interamerican Driver of the Year

Panama City, Panama (October 23, 2007) - The Federación Interamericana de Periodistas del Automóvil (FIPA) Interamerican Federation of Automotive Newspersons announced today that Dario Franchitti y Edison Lluch tied for Interamerican Driver of the year. Even thou Franchitti is Scotsman was considered for the award since he won the prestigious Indy 500 and the IRL championship one of the top event and series in the Americas. Edison LLuch from Puerto Rico has won the American GT International Series two time in a row and is currently leading this year.
Third place was the Brazilian Felipe Massa, who placed second last year and has done a great job in F1 with Ferrari this year. The rest of the order was as follows: Sébastien Bourdain, Memo Rojas, Juan Pablo Montoya, Milka Duno, Tonny Kaanan, Luis Pérez y Marco Andretti.
Since this award was instituted in 2001 the following drivers have won this prestigious
: Juan Pablo Montoya, Rubens Barrichello, Manuel Ferreyros, Nelson Piquet, y Rodolfo González. This year the award ceremony will be held in Panama City, Panama on November 22. Instituto Panameño de Turismo (IPAT) – The Panamanian Tourism Board - and Copa Airlines, will sponsor the banquet.
