Biography
Mike Canney is the driver of the #76 Corvette. The #76 Corvette is sponsored by Sunset Hills Vineyard, located in Northern Virginia.
Mike grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. where he gained an interest in riding off-road motorcycles. During college in central Illinois, lacking a car or much money (!), he competed in numerous bicycling road races. After college, he moved back to Ft. Lauderdale, bought a 1984 VW Rabbit GTi and started competing in local autocrosses.
In the early 1990’s, Mike and his wife Diane moved to northern Virginia and started several new companies, including a technology firm and vineyard. Racing fell by the wayside, until he bought a Z06 Corvette in 2001.
In 2002, with a new SCCA regional license, he started competing in the local MARRS series in a used American Sedan Mustang. In 2003, he won 7 of 11 races, and the MARRS championship. For 2004, he bought a used GT1 Corvette, competing in the inaugural AGT races at CMP and Lime Rock. He also competed in the SCCA NE Division races, finishing 3rd overall, and went to the runoffs. 2005 was a transitional year. The main focus was on completing the sale of Intelligence Data Systems, a company he founded in 1997. IDS was one of the fastest growing companies in America, an Inc. 500 winner and the #1 technology firm in Virginia.
For 2006, Mike is excited about competing in the AGT series and SCCA National events, driving a new Rocketsports Corvette. The car is supported by The Race Place, located in Export PA.
Mike and Diane reside in Placida, Florida. Besides racing, their hobbies are operating Sunset Hills Vineyard, traveling and boating.
